“Hinkle Construction Services Wins Bid on Cumberland Parkway Interchange and Clay County Curry Branch Road Bridge Replacement”
Hinkle Construction Services (HCS) is pleased to announce it has been awarded two Kentucky Transportation Cabinet projects: the Cumberland Parkway/KY 910 Interchange and the Clay County Curry Branch Road Bridge Replacement.
The Cumberland Parkway Interchange project includes widening an existing bridge and constructing a new interchange at the Cumberland Parkway intersection with KY 910 at Windsor. Once completed, the bridge will be 256 feet long and 25 feet high. The interchange will include four new ramps that will allow for a new exit/access point on the Cumberland Parkway. Work on the project began in mid-May with a projected completion date of June 2019.
“The Cumberland Parkway Interchange project will give travellers to the Nancy, Russell Springs, and general Somerset area more immediate access to Cumberland Parkway,” HCS Executive Vice President Chad Conley said.
The Clay County Curry Branch Road Bridge Replacement project will begin in early July; the projected finish date is November, 2018. Hinkle Construction Services will construct a single span bridge to replace an existing bridge that is narrow, has no guard rails, and has a 20 ton weight limit. The new bridge will be 56-foot-long with two lanes and two-foot shoulders as well as guard rails on each side. It will be 19 feet high with no restrictions on weight at its completion.
“The new Clay County Curry Branch Road Bridge represents a major safety improvement for travellers in the area,” Conley said. “It will be wider and include a safety rail on both sides to help protect travelers. It will also be taller than the original bridge, so it will be less likely to flood.”
HCS Engineer Amos Hubbard, a 36 year veteran of the highway industry, is the project manager for both projects. Hubbard’s extensive experience includes work on approximately 80 bridge projects including the I-75/Todd’s Road Bridge, widening and replacement of the New Circle Road Bridge between Leestown and Versailles, and a new interchange at I-75/Georgetown.
